MATAMP GT20

Filed Under . MATAMP GT20, Amps AKTUELL | Kommentare deaktiviert für MATAMP GT20

The GT20, designed from the ground up as a full of tone clean amp. The brief was to provide a warm transparent clean tone as an excellent pedal platform so you can really hear just how good a pedal can be.

The GT20 uses a pair of 5881/6L6GC output valves for a little more of an American voice that suits many of today’s boutique pedals. The preamp EQ allows enough range of control, enhancing but never dominating the core tone of your pedal choices.

The attack control, first featured on the award winning C7 amplifier, is key to the success of making the GT20 work with a wide range of overdrive pedals. The attack control adjusts the amount of negative feedback in the power amp. This allows you to change the dynamic and frequency response together with the onset point of power valve overdrive to suit your pedal choice.

Another feature last seen as a custom option on a Series 2000 is tremolo. The GT20 incorporates a bias modulating tremolo. This type of tremolo is incredibly difficult to emulate in a pedal as it needs to interact with the power valves, changing harmonics and volume at the same time.

Lightweight aluminium chassis shares the same DNA as the Series 2000 head. This light chassis construction allows us to use a traditional wood sleeve for classic aesthetics while keeping the overall weight down.

Transformers are made for us in the UK to our design. They are carefully selected for the right balance of dynamics and harmonics. The power supply has just the right amount of sag and compression from the rectifier valve to encourage expressive playing.

The Series 3000 is a direct descendant of the amp that started it all for Matamp, the Series 2000, made famous by Peter Green among many. The Series 3000 has a warm and dynamically responsive tone that sounds great on its own or with pedals. Peter Green asked Mat for an amp that sounded like honey – here it is.

The preamp is the same as a Series 2000 apart from a drive pot in place of the switch. The output stage combines aspects of the Orange Matamp ORST and Series 2000. It features a pair of cathode bias EL34s fed by a 5U4GB rectifier valve to give 30w of clean power and dynamic compression that responds incredibly well to your pick attack.

The tone is pure vintage Matamp from the Cooper-Mathias era of Orange-Matamp, but without the expense of owning an original. If you’re lucky enough to own an original you can now retire your prized vintage amp and achieve all of the British blues tones you love, if you’ve never experienced true vintage Matamp tone what are you waiting for?

Updated with a stainless steel chassis, the one weak point on the original, this is an amp that won’t let you down and you won’t want to part with.

Available in the modern style Picture Frame (pictured) or the Traditional SL head sleeve.

The GT40mkIII is the perfect amp for those searching for classic British tones in an easy to use hand wired format.

The GT40mkIII goes from warm clean with a hint of Series 2000 to full on classic rock tones. The EQ is a more conventional design than other Matamps so most players will feel instantly at home. The goal was to create a great amp that is quick and easy to dial in together with foot switchable boost perfect for studio and stage.

Custom UK made transformers help to delivery great dynamics and depth. Hand wired turret board construction for serviceability and longevity.

The compact head format makes the amp surprisingly portable and the modest 40w output from a pair of EL34 valves fed by a GZ34 valve rectifier is just right for most gigging guitarists.

GREEN MATAMP GT120MV

The GT120MV is the master volume version of the original GT120. Taking elements of the original and later versions we have developed an amp that retains the characteristic Green Matamp organic sound while offering some way to control the awesome power these heads offer.

The preamp features a gain pot in place of the drive switch which offers greater control, and the master volume is moved to a position in the circuit just before the driver stage so you can get the amp to overdrive at drummer friendly levels. Don’t worry though, the same great warm clean is available.

The power amp has been updated to feature individual bias adjustment. This makes matched sets a thing of the past and enables the user to replace a single valve while still maintaining optimum performance. The driver and power amp stages have been optimised to achieve reliable performance with a tone reminiscent of the original units while using modern valves.
The GT120MV can drive multiple cabs from the 4, 8 & 16 ohm speaker outputs. By using the parallel inputs found on Matamp cabinets the player can construct their ideal rig from our range of cabs.

Matamp GT 120

Filed Under . MATAMP GT120, Amps AKTUELL, News | Kommentare deaktiviert für Matamp GT 120

The GT120 is a reissue of the original 70s amp. Unmistakable Green Matamp organic sound at incredible sound pressure levels or classic Matamp warm clean.

The preamp is the original circuit including the four position drive switch, bass boost and presence/boost circuit incorporating the inductor.

The key to this amp is its clean tone. The preamp has origins going back to the days of Orange Matamp when Peter Green described the tone he wanted to Tony and Mat as “sweet….but not like treacle…like honey.” Coupled with four EL34s the warm sweet clean tone is a perfect match for fuzz.

The power amp has been slightly updated to feature individual bias adjustment per valve. This makes matched sets a thing of the past and enables the user to replace a single valve while still maintaining optimum performance.

The big difference in this reissue is that the amp is now hand wired on turret tracks, our hybrid PCB turret construction method that we have been using throughout this millennium. Greatly improving reliability and serviceability over previous versions, including the original amps from the 1970s.

Transformers and chassis are sourced from the same local supplier as the originals.

The GT120 can drive multiple cabs from the 4, 8 & 16 ohm speaker outputs. By using the parallel inputs found on Matamp cabinets the player can construct their ideal rig from our range of cabs.

MATAMP 1224

Filed Under . MATAMP 1224, Amps AKTUELL | Kommentare deaktiviert für MATAMP 1224

After years of development the Guitarist Gold Award winning Matamp 1224 is back. The latest version incorporates elements of earlier models and improves the performance and facilities of this classic.

The 1224 derives it name from the output valve switching system which allows the player to select between 1 or 2 valves in class A, and 2 or 4 valves in class AB. With the new easy to use 1224 rotary control in place of the push button matrix the player can simply select how many output valves to use and what class they are working in. There is also a triode pentode half power switch which is located on the rear of the chassis. The result of the switching allows the amplifier to operate at different power levels from a mere 2.5w to 50w.

There were always two versions of 1224 available, fixed or cathode bias. The new 1224 now features dual mode output operation meaning the 1224 can be operated in either fixed or cathode bias. By simply plugging into the lower input jack the amp operates cathode bias and into the higher input the amp runs fixed bias. This combined with the 1224 output valve switching allows the player to dial in the perfect volume level, balance of output valve distortion as well as all important feel.

The reverb is much improved over earlier versions and features a 6V6 driven spring reverb tank with choice of either two or three springs. The reverb has moved to a position in the circuit just after the tone stack to give classic spring reverb sounds.

The foot switchable boost has moved position in the circuit to give a greater range of both clean and dirty sounds. The boost switch engages an additional stage of gain before the main preamp, thus boosting the amp. The amount of boost is controlled by the pot and can be configured to give a volume or overdrive boost depending on the setting of the gain and master. The boost is voiced slightly brighter than the normal gain which opens up further tonal possibilities.

The voice control acts as a high pass filter which sets the overall character of the preamp and overdrive tone. This can be controlled via the foot switch and is useful for matching between different guitars featuring single coils or humbuckers.

The preamp has been updated with various EQ tailoring switches. The original 1224mkII had controls to adjust the bass and the mid range, these are now renamed bass shift and mid shift. There is also a new treble shift control which adjusts the frequency of the treble control. Together the EQ with the switches provides the player with powerful tone shaping tools.

Preamp out and power amp in form a passive effects send and return conveniently situated on the front panel. On the rear panel you will find connections for the foot switch and speaker outputs. The 1224 can run into 16, 8 and four ohms with two sockets provided for both 4 and 8 ohm to drive multiple speaker cabs.

Need more power? The Green Matamp  GT150 is a dual purpose high power head for guitar and bass. Designed for ultimate clean headroom but with enough gain to satisfy most, the GT150 is not for the faint hearted.

For bass duties the GT150 delivers a gritty midrange drive that really cuts through while guitarists get levels of dynamic punch that have to be felt to be believed.

Now featuring the excellent Gold Lion KT88 valves as standard the GT150 delivers over 150w of clean power to either 4 or 8 ohm loads (we recommend a 400w cab minimum). At 10% THD the amp delivers 200w and keeps going well beyond when driven.

The preamp takes elements of the GTL design but has been tweaked for more low end punch. Capable of delivering both clean and crunch sounds with classic Matamp tone.

Huge transformers, massive filter capacitors and hand wired turret track construction will give years of reliable service.

Available as standard black or custom Green (as pictured), this amp is set to dominate your live sound.
